Saturday 11th February, 2012 - The first of the new ‘Discover Your Estuary’ canoe trails which aim to introduce the wonders of the Medway Estuary will be launched with a Free Guided Paddle on Saturday 11th February, 2012. The paddle will begin at RiversideCountryPark in Rainham, Kent at 1pm and will last for between 3 and 4 hours. SORRY, THIS GUIDED PADDLE IS NOW FULL FOR THOSE WITHOUT THEIR OWN CANOES.

Saturday 25th February, 2012 - The first of our free guided Medway and Swale Estuary walks will take place on Saturday 25th February and will be led by BBC Travel Writer of the Year, 2011, Carol Donaldson. Carol will be leading the group from OareVillage (meet outside the Castle Pub at 10.30am) to Luddenham Court, The Swale, Oare Bird Reserve and then back along Faversham and Oare Creek to the Castle Pub. The distance will be about 7 miles and it’ll take about 4 hours so bring a lunch and something to drink along the way. Dave will also be there so will be able to chat about canoeing the parts of the Swale and Creeks that we pass, for those interested (there’ll be a guided paddle here another time). Saturday 10th March, 2012 - The second of our free guided Medway and Swale Estuary paddles will take place on Saturday 10th March and will leave from Queenborough Public Slipway at midday. We'll paddle out past Deadmans Island as far as Stangate Creek and Burntwick Island before returning to Queenborough. It'll be approximately a 3 to 4 hour paddle in total, and there will be no chance of landing to stretch your legs anywhere. Please see the video on this site to get an idea of what to expect (although bear in mind it won't be as warm as when the video was shot!) Saturday 31st March, 2012 Upnor - Hoo circular walk, guided by Dave Wise. Meet outside Upnor Castle entrance, on Upnor High Street, at 10.30am. The distance will be about 4 miles and it’ll take about 3 hours so bring a lunch and something to drink along the way. It’s free to come along and places are not limited but please book by emailing dave@davewise.biz

Saturday 7th April, 2012 - The third of our guided Canoe Trail paddles, led by Dave Wise, from Gillingham Strand to Chatham. Meet at 11am at the Strand Public Slipway. We'll paddle around and through Hoo Island, then upriver past Upnor Castle and Chatham Dockyard, before returning to Gillingham. We'll be out about 5 or 6 hours in total. It’s free to come along and places for those without their own canoes are very limited; please book by emailing dave@davewise.biz

Saturday 14th April, 2012 - Elmley Walk. Meet at 10.30am at Kingshill Farm car park, RSPB Elmley Marshes Reserve, Sheppey. 2.5 Miles approx. A circular walk and will be led by BBC Travel Writer of the Year, 2011, Carol Donaldson around the stunning Elmley Reserve, where you will find out more about the lost village of Elmley and the reserve's broad array of flora and fauna. Bring a packed lunch. There are toilets only at the reserve car park. It’s free to come along and places are not limited but please book through us by emailing dave@davewise.biz

 

Saturday 21st April, 2012 - The fourth and final guided Canoe Trail paddle, led by Dave Wise, from Oare to Faversham, via the Swale and Faversham Creek. Meet at 9am at Oare Public Slipway. We'll paddle around the Swale a little and then catch the tide up Faversham Creek, before returning to Oare. We'll be out about 5 or 6 hours in total. It’s free to come along and places for those without their own canoes are very limited; please book by emailing dave@davewise.biz

 

Saturday 5th May, 2012 -   A creative writing Walk and will be led by BBC Travel Writer of the Year, 2011, Carol Donaldson. Meet at 10.30am at St Mary's Church, Gillingham Green, Medway. This walk is not circular and will finish at Riverside CountryPark. 2.5 Miles approx. A gentle stroll along the Saxon Shore Way, starting at the historic heart of Gillingham, St Mary's Church, where Will Adams was baptised in 1564 and finishing at Riverside Country Park (where there is food, drink and toilets). Along the way look out for 19th centrury fortifications, superb birdlife and remains of the area's association with the cement industry.  It’s free to come along and places are not limited but please book by emailing dave@davewise.biz
